Free baby products

Filed under: Free Stuff — Admin @ 7:16 pm

If you are a new parents, there are thousands upon thousands of companies desperate to get you as a loyal consumer. Taking care of babies is extremely expensive, and new parents spend thousands upon thousands of dollars every year on toys, diapers, baby food, cribs, blankets, carriers, strollers, and many other baby products. If you are a new parent, you probably already know this. What you probably don’t know, however, is that there is an upside to all of this financial hardship: there are many different companies out there willing to give out free baby product samples in a bid to get your business.

You can find free baby product samples basically anyplace where new parents shop or congregate. In baby stores, supermarkets, Preschools, and community recreation centers with baby classes, You will occasionally come across eager executives willing to give you free diapers, food, clothing, or other useful baby products. These suppliers, however, are unreliable. You only really find them if your community is being targeted by marketers. A better way to get free baby product sample items is to look on Google. There are many different companies which, if contacted, will send you sample products free of charge.

Of course, there is a downside to these free baby product samples. By applying for them, you put yourself on mailing lists. This, of course, increases the amount of junk mail you will get in the following months and years. Nonetheless, a little extra junk mail is a small price to pay for all that free stuff! When you are a new parent, after all, every penny counts. If there are companies out there willing to give you samples of free baby products, it is completely worth having to wade through the junk mail from time to time.

Another great thing about free baby product samples is that they give you the chance to check out the different products. Every parent wants what’s best for his or her baby, but finding what babies like can be pretty difficult. They can’t very well reach out and say that they like brand x diapers better than brand y, or that they would rather have a purple toy than a pink one. Nonetheless, if you let babies try different free baby product samples out, they find ways to make themselves heard. Usually, they will laugh or smile when they like something, and grimace or cry when they don’t.  Trying out baby products for free gives you the opportunity to gauge your baby’s reaction to a number of different things.

The battle over choosing a baby name

Filed under: Baby Names — Admin @ 4:15 am

The majority of my friends have gotten married and have started families. With the exception of a few of them, most have given their children very normal and appealing names. However, my best friend from high school spent the nine months of her pregnancy scouring books to find unique baby names. She was determined that her child would not have a name that anyone else would have. At first, I thought that was creative and wonderful, but soon she started naming some unique baby names that would make your head spin. I won’t name any of them, but I believe that some of them were just letters that she took from the alphabet and threw them together.

Finally, in her quest for unique baby names, she did manage to choose a name that was unique but not too farfetched. She altered the spelling of it a tad and was more than happy with what she’d invented. I think her husband was just relieved that she finally settled on one particular name. What is really ironic is that everyone, including my best friend, ended up giving their daughter a nickname anyway. Go figure.

As a psychiatric assistant, I get to meet some very interesting individuals. I get to meet people who didn’t have to look very far to find unique baby names. One of my patients was a sweet little boy name Lemonjello. He pronounced it quite uniquely but when I questioned his mother on the spelling of his name and why she choose it, she simply said that when she was pregnant, she ate lots of lemon jello. Therefore, he was named Lemonjello. Talk about unique baby names. The poor child. I can’t imagine putting a person through that for the rest of their life.

There is a certain amount of joy in finding unique baby names. But, keep in mind that this isn’t something that can easily be changed. You aren’t the one who has to grow up and go through the school years with a name that can be mispronounced and mocked. What’s so horrible about some of the names that used to be so popular in past years that have faded out as time has moved forward?

Another one of my friends is a teacher. She named her two children very common names because she was constantly complaining about looking over her student lists at the beginning of each year and having more and more of a problem pronouncing names and figuring out what gender a particular name is. Why? Because parents are so adamant about finding unique baby names. No one stops to think about the issues that may arise when you are looking for unique baby names. Considering the fact that your child will have to go through his or her entire life with a name that you deemed unique, choose wisely. Perhaps you may want to toss aside the unique baby names books and find something a bit simpler.

Organic baby food… Is is necessary?

Filed under: Baby Care — Admin @ 9:15 pm

I was raised on normal, old fashioned, run-of-the-mill Gerber baby food. Back then, organic baby food did not exist. Organic foods in general did not exist. There certainly was not organic baby clothing like there is today. So when my wife decided that we would feed the kid organic baby foods, I was not pleased. Why spend the extra money? Our budget was pretty tight as it was, and getting baby food organic did not seem that important to me. After all, I was in great physical health and I had been raised on conventionally grown foods. Why would it be any different for my baby?

We argued about it for a while, but eventually I gave in. It seems like my wife might have something to her arguments. You see, things are a lot different than when I was a kid. Back then, although we had pesticides and artificial fertilizers, we certainly did not have genetically modified foods. Research has shown that pollen from genetically modified food is much more likely to cause food sensitivities and food allergies. This can be a big problem, lasting for a child’s whole life. Organic baby food is really the only way to protect against these kinds of health problems.

My wife also made another argument that I found pretty convincing. She said that, just because I did not suffer from health problems from eating conventionally grown food, it did not mean that other people didn’t. Organic baby food might save my baby from health problems that I was not prone to. Of course, it might all turn out alright as it often does. Nonetheless, we are parents, and it is our responsibility to not take any unnecessary risks with the health of our child.

Whether or not it is because of the organic baby food, our baby boy is quite healthy. We have decided to call him John, as he is strong and tall like my uncle John was at his age. Teaching him to eat organic food, avoid sweets and junk food, and exercise daily will make him grow up healthy. Of course, it is still too early for a lot of that. After all, he is only baby! Nonetheless, when a couple years have passed  and we have used up the last of the organic baby food, we hope he will still be as strong, happy, and healthy as he is today.

Quality baby mattresses are a must

Filed under: Baby Care — Admin @ 3:55 pm

You may fight each night with your mattress, and it might be the reason why you are not getting a good night of sleep. Many times, we don’t realize that this can be a problem for our children as well. To be fair, children are more resilient, and can even sleep on the floor without a lot of complaint and no obvious after effects. However, that does not mean you shouldn’t take the time to find a quality baby mattress that will ensure your child is comfortable.

Practice with a baby doll?

Filed under: Baby Care — Admin @ 9:13 am

When a new baby enters the family, the other children, depending on their ages, can be a bit confused. Even if mom and dad explain that mommy’s expanding belly means a baby is coming, some children just don’t put two and two together. When the baby suddenly appears one day after mom has made a visit to the hospital, the older brother or sister may feel a bit disjointed. New babies require constant care, and toddlers can find themselves feeling neglected, even when they’re not. A great solution to both keep the youngster occupied and teach them about their younger sibling is a newborn baby doll.

Most parents naturally feel hesitant about letting a four or five-year-old hold a small infant. The big brother or sis will want to though, so a great first step is letting them hold and care for their own newborn baby doll. The dolls are typically about the same size as an average newborn and they have soft skin and a sweet expression on their faces, just like the real thing.

Bringing the doll home at the same time the baby makes its arrival is ideal. You naturally don’t want to confuse the little tike by telling them that their new sibling is just like the newborn baby doll. You want to explain that the baby is a human being, just like they are and in order for them to understand how careful you have to be with the baby, they need to first show they can take care of the doll. Kids love anything that feels or seems grown-up.

There are all different types of clothes that you can buy for the dolls. If you just had a baby girl, buy a doll of the same gender, along with a few dress-up outfits and a small blanket. Do the very same in blue if you just welcomed a new son into your family. Asking your child to name the newborn baby doll is a lovely idea. They’ll be tickled with the responsibility and you’ll get to see their creative side. They may think it’s cute to name their doll after the new baby or even the family pet. Also don’t be surprised if the name changes day-by-day, some kids just can’t make up their minds.

These lifelike toys aren’t expensive at all and are really a must have for any family with a little one awaiting the arrival of a new baby. As the toddler matures, it’s a nice idea to let them help hold the real baby’s bottle and even hold them in their lap as long as mom or dad are close by to supervise. Sooner or later they’ll likely want to pass their newborn baby doll on to their younger sibling when they are ready to graduate to other toys.

New Baby Gifts

Filed under: Gifts — Admin @ 8:11 pm

The birth of a new baby is an exciting time for any family. Men and women who are not parents usually have a more difficult time choosing new baby gifts. Knowing what to buy for a new baby does not have to be challenging. Avoid purchasing duplicates of what other non-parents choose for new baby gifts, be adventurous, and show up with unique new baby gifts that the new mother will cherish.

Once a baby is born, new moms have very little time for themselves. The baby must come first. Diaper changes, feedings, playtime, and colic can eat up the majority of a day’s hours. For me, dinnertime became a nightmare. Both of my children would scream as soon as the scent of dinner filled the air.

One item in my house became a lifesaver and must be added to a list of thoughtful new baby gifts. The infant swing was the only item in which I could place the screaming infant and manage to wolf down dinner. The soothing rocking motion of the swing would keep the infant quiet for at least a few minutes. Therefore, on my list of important new baby gifts, a swing makes top of the list.

I also had an issue with putting my newborn down in the crib. As soon as I placed my son or daughter into the crib, he or she would wake up screaming. I learned from my doctor that the cold of the mattress was to blame. She suggested purchasing a heating pad or hot water bottle and warming up the crib first. This did the trick. While shopping for new baby gifts, consider a plug-in heating pad for the new mom. It can help the baby to stay asleep while mom curls up for a few hours of necessary rest.

Many babies grow accustomed to mom’s smell. My children could easily tell the difference between mom and another adult. Many cologne manufacturers create unisex fragrances. CK One is a fragrance I enjoy and my husband also could wear. This simple trick made it easy for my husband to take over feedings on weekends. The normally breastfed infant was fooled and settled down with a bottle quickly. It is not a typical gift, but purchasing unisex colognes for new parents can be exceptionally helpful new baby gifts.

The last item that I could not have lived without is a baby sling. My children were both clingy infants who hated being put down. A baby sling helped my back out while carrying around an infant all day, and it kept the baby happy and quiet. When shopping for new baby gifts, definitely look into baby slings with good shoulder padding.

Thinking outside of the traditional box when it comes to new baby gifts will be appreciated. A unique and unusual gift for the parents will ensure you won’t be copying someone else.

Getting ready for the new baby

Filed under: New Baby, Newborn Prep — Admin @ 2:09 pm

Decorating a baby room can be a fun and exciting activity. It can also be a confusing and daunting task as well. There are so many options available on the market in nursery decorations that choosing the right items for your home can be a little difficult. Keeping certain rules in mind when decorating a baby room can help make the activity easy as well as rewarding.

The very first thing you have to consider when decorating a baby room is safety. You may really want to create an old-fashioned nursery filled with quilts for infants and retro toys. However, you should not fill the nursery with antique baby furniture, especially if they are going to be used.

Many of the older cribs and children’s furniture do not meet today’s safety guidelines. Even newer items can fall short. It is crucial to check the safety guidelines before making a purchase. As a rule of thumb, it is usually best to buy furnishings new when decorating a baby room. Borrowed items and used products can lead to trouble.

Penny pinchers may argue that you can research which items are up to par as far as safety standards are concerned. However, many of the new nursery furniture actually save you money in the long run. Today’s cribs commonly convert to toddler beds and some will even convert to a regular twin-sized bed.

Think of all of the money you will save over the years by buying a convertible crib. These quality nursery items grow with your child. You only have to make one purchase. Investing in expensive furnishings like cribs and chests baby blankets, is a good idea when decorating a baby room. These investments will pay off in the long run.

Some items can be purchased second-hand. Many people save quite a bit of money by going to garage sales and swap meets. Items that are commonly purchased at such functions include picture frames, bedding, wall art, toys and lamps. These items can really come in handy when decorating a baby room and they don’t need to be brand new.

One of the best ways to get organized when decorating a baby room is to consult with seasoned mothers who have already been down this path. Moms love to share their ideas and show off their know-how. Talking with other moms can really give you ideas and inspiration on the many ways that you can make a one-of-a-kind nursery for your little one.
